Get Your Butts AWAY From You-Know-Where-Con!
24th-Mar-2009 10:38 pm
little kuriboh
So the Asia Northwest Cultural Education Association had my Guhroogamesh!!!1 video taken down a few hours ago.

I guess they didn't appreciate all that free advertising I'd given 'em.

Wait, you mean the one that didn't use any of their copyrighted material at all?
24th-Mar-2009 10:45 pm (UTC)
It had a brief sound clip of Vic Mignogna from their commercial, but... it was about five seconds long.

Eh.

Well that sucks, I mean you gave them way more advertising then that commercial that portrays Anime & Manga fans as like you said unlikeable/braindead people. Anyways sorry that your video was taken down. Also I was wondering are you going to upload the video on another website? Like: www.yugiohtheabridgedseries.com or www.dailymotion.com

They're jealous of and fear your amazingness.
24th-Mar-2009 10:52 pm (UTC)
What happened to you Asia Northwest Cultural Education Association?

I thought you were cool!

I heard it was because a couple people posted the video on the sakuracon forum and people were making porno comments. If the non pg 13 stuff was beeped (which would be funny too) they'd probubly leave it alone.

Ugh, epic fail.

Especially since legally, you ARE allowed to use five second clips. Swear to God, some rap group recently won a lawsuit because they had "stolen" eighteen seconds of classical music to use in one of their songs, and the original artist called them on it. However, the court ruled in favor of the rap artists, because it "was not a substantial amount" of music to truly count as idea theft.

ANCEA can suck it. If they sued you, you'd win. xP

Is your icon stealable? It's hilarious. :)

Wow, what a load of horse shit.
24th-Mar-2009 11:52 pm (UTC)
They've been taking down pretty much all the videos that mock the ad.

24th-Mar-2009 11:53 pm (UTC)
umm, if anything your commercial would make even MORE people want to go to Sakuracon... wtf?
24th-Mar-2009 11:53 pm (UTC)
That..doesn't even make sense. o.o

Maybe if you just bleep out "Sakura Con"..?

Douchebags.

What I don't understand is why are they so uptight and defensive about a commercial that is can be considered offensive to the respective fanbase the commercial is trying to cater to?

They are a "cultural education association" who funds a video full of stereotypes, and are now all defensive when other people parody a video that seemed to originally be a parody of otaku culture in the first place.

OH MY GOD I HAD AN ANEURYSM.

Any chance that the video will make it to Revver? I noticed that your most recent videos haven't appeared on your Revver channel yet. I hope everything is all right!
25th-Mar-2009 12:17 am (UTC)
Wow, that is an incredibly dumb move on their part, unless they plan to take down the original ad, put up a more respectable one, and pretend this all never happened.

I don't think that will happen... I heard mtv might show up BECAUSE of the commercial and the whole meme thing
25th-Mar-2009 12:20 am (UTC)
Aww I diddn't even get to show my mate your version, oh well. copyrighting sucks though.
25th-Mar-2009 08:07 am (UTC)
I saved it as an .flv on my computer if you know a way I could send it to you.

that sucks, i loved your version
25th-Mar-2009 12:37 am (UTC)
Yay free speech?
25th-Mar-2009 03:27 am (UTC)
Woot? *waves tiny flag*
25th-Mar-2009 12:40 am (UTC)
The sad thing was, if I hadn't seen your parody version I would never even have known about the original ad.
25th-Mar-2009 12:47 am (UTC) - Same thing happened to me

I was the one who posted that anti Sakura Con commercial as a video respomse to your Guhroogamesh!!!1 video LK. My video had no copyrighted material pertaining to them and the Asia Northwest Cultural Education Association had Youtube take it down as well. I am considering emailing youtube about this injustice and if that doesn't work The Asia Northwest Cultural Education Association is going to be getting some REALLY nasty emails.

I'm messaging the convention chair on sakura-con's website myself to ask why they think its a bad idea.
25th-Mar-2009 12:54 am (UTC)
Are you planning to upload this anywhere else? I'd love to rewatch it again sometime =(

Like Revver, perhaps? ;)
25th-Mar-2009 12:56 am (UTC)
Wow. That sucks. It also shows YouTube and the con have no understanding of fair-use as it applies to parody.
