3rd-Jul-2008 05:32 pm - Little Follow Up
Here's a little follow up for the last post i made about the Totally Rad Show review of Revelations. They have a poll every week on their website and this week's question is "Has Battlestar jumped the shark?" and last i checked "There aren't any sharks in space" was winning followed by "Yes." So if you don't agree with those results you may want to check it out and vote.

The poll is just below the "Upcoming Releases" part of the site. Just scroll down a little and you'll see it.

Here

(also, however unethical, you can vote as many times as you want... just refresh the page...)

So I am contemplating writing an essay about Geass, women and fandom. I probably won't post it until after Sunday since I imagine I will have to add/revise things. But it should help me wrap my head around how I feel about the way Geass treats its female cast. Read: I do not approve.

I'm saving my return trip for the 4th for tomorrow since I need to figure out how to feed my childrens and I don't want to mess with the hell traffic. Plus, I am having too much fun reading spoilers for the movies out in the theaters. It's how I procrastinate cleaning the rest of my clothes.

I want more Fairy Cube. So so badly. I might break down and go to the Barnes & Noble this weekend.

Wow, this post had no point.... Wait did my account just expire? DAMMIT.

3rd-Jul-2008 10:26 pm - Battlestar Galactica conventions - news and discussion
Following up on my earlier post about Galactica Four I finally want to get something off my chest I've been thinking about for a while: Is there a good and comprehensive, English-speaking website that gathers info about conventions attended by BSG stars, or a forum that facilitates exchange about these events and their quality?

If so, where? If not, do you think this is something the fandom would find useful? Yes, Battlestar Blog and Skiffy are great places for learning about the latest convention news, but older stuff is hard to track down. Well, if someone found it useful, should the necessary website/community be on LJ or a fully-flegded website?

Besides, TnKP is there anyone else that is subbing 5D's? Probably not, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

3rd-Jul-2008 11:25 am - The hell? (RL)
I suppose this shouldn't surprise me, but... There's a G.I Joe movie coming out? Live action? Looks like it's aimed at adults?

Movie poster

I really fear what they might do with this movie. :/ G.I. Joe was my favorite cartoon ever. It was my first "fandom" ever (though it's odd to call it a fandom when it was all offline/pre-Internet). I can only imagine the awful things they're going to do. :/
3rd-Jul-2008 02:13 pm - And the husky rested after six days...
I'm finally done with my co-worker's computer after six days of on and off work and it's going home.

Be seeing you!

It runs pretty smoothly now and loads up fast enough, given its age. If I had a copy of the original Windows XP Professional install CD (I KNOW that the guy who installed XP on the machine used a illegitimate copy) and knowledge of what files to back up I might have just wiped the entire hard drive. I didn't have any of those so I went with the slowest option, painstakingly removing every virus, trojan horse, adware and spyware infection that I could find given what tools I had to work with. I removed about 70 virus and trojan horse infected files and nearly 1000 articles of spyware and adware. The computer was so bad at one point that neither the keyboard or mouse would work.

After cleaning the main account in XP, I found that infections were hiding in other accounts, so in the end I deleted those accounts in safe mode. I removed every rouge spyware infested game, toolbar accessory and file that I came across. In the end I set the default internet browser to Firefox 3.0 with add-ons such as adblock plus, no script, KeyScrambler, and Web of Trust. I also found interesting add-ons for IE 7 including an ad blocker, KeyScrambler and Web of Trust. Additionally, I set the the security on the browser to fairly high while disabling pop-ups, just in case they decide to use IE after all.

For the finishing touches I did blow all of the dust out of the computer and wiped off the case and keyboard since they were also dirty. I just hope this computer doesn't run into anymore problems and that they heed my advice on how to avoid really bad spyware and virus infections.

Man, that was a time consuming process, I hope I don't have to do it again any time soon.

3rd-Jul-2008 11:37 am - Maple Leaves and Bubble Tea
Was going to post this yesterday, but I had one of the best Canada Days of my life on Tuesday. It was third only to Canada Day in Ottawa, and that one awesome festival I remember gong to at Bauer Pond as a kid.

Anyway, I had a lolita picnic with three girls from Calgary Loli at Prince's Island Park (and later inside Eau Claire in front of a dentist's office after getting rained on), saw lots of people and good music in front of Eau Claire, then wandered around Chinatown and Dragon City Mall for a while with the girls before they had to go. After that, I went for karaoke with Kat, Nichole and friends, saw fireworks with them from up on MacHugh Hill (mosquitoes be damned!), and then went to Bubblemania for slushes and wings.

Ah, it's a good time to be alive and in Canada. <3

Oh, and yay! Funimation is distributing most of the halted Geneon titles now! I'll be able to collect the rest of the Higurashi DVDs! :D

It's update time! *watches you all run away* >:

Back in Birmingham over summer. I've already seen the car break down again and it's been less than a week! XD

I stole [info]avalix0's job in Derby over summer. Means I have to commute - I only work one day a week because of it - but at £8 an hour, I'm not complaining.

Tokonatsu and AmeCon plans have been made (well, insomuch as getting there). For Toko, I'll be in MK really rather early (about 10:30), mainly because I'm meeting up with [info]avalix0 and Aura at MK Central for a coffee or six before heading over to the campsite (they're travelling early, so I figured I'd join 'em). For AmeCon, I might well be visiting [info]avalix0 in Guildford before going to Leicester. Depends on my monetary situation, which is currently pretty dire - but hopefully being paid will ease things a little.

Yup, that's about it for now.
3rd-Jul-2008 10:39 am - tl;dr post ahead, my bad ya'll.
[mood| sleepy]
[music| Bare Naked Ladies - Who Needs Sleep (almost too appropriate right now)]

Okay, second interview down. I apologize for not posting about it earlier, but I honestly wasn't ready to talk about it. Which is to say it didn't go as "smoothly" as the first one did, but then again, I wasn't really expecting it to.

interview #2 )

All of that aside, I feel a lot better now. I've had a day to kind of unwind, despite having to work. This week is going to be INSANE though. I'm not looking forward to today's shift, just because everyone's going to be crazy trying to get everything they want today, and if they don't get it today, they're going to come tomorrow--and I will be there for both days. Great. I love how my supervisor actually apologized to me like, "Well, there was no one else who could work until closing on the 4th, and you know, I just..." And I just waved him off because it doesn't really matter that much. I figured I was going to get the midnight shift on the holiday, just because I know that a lot of the people who were already there (despite me having worked there longer than all of them COMBINED-- not bragging. it's the truth.) would probably complain if they'd gotten it. And since I never complain about my hours, he figured it would be okay. And he's right, it's totally fine. I've stopped caring, lol. Doesn't mean I don't anticipate a lot of sore muscles after it's all over though. I'm glad he gave me Saturday off though. I feel like it's compensation for the hell that is going to be this 4th of July weekend.

Other than that, that's all that's been going on I guess. I'm almost done with Apollo Justice...
short, pointless thoughts (with some slight spoilers, though I'm sure most people I know don't care at this point, haha) )

I think that's it for now. Phew.
3rd-Jul-2008 04:18 pm - Dammit
I may be computer-avoiding girl for a bit, which is going to mean I spam LJ less. This may or may not be a good thing. But I've identified a problem - a small (ATM) pain running forefinger to wrist in my right hand. Computer at home is set up with keyboard shortcuts, but work systems involve too much mouse clicking.

DO NOT WANT RSI. Therefore enforcing limited computer time outside work (and setting hourly alarms at work to prevent absorption on current project). Fortunately Occy Health is the next desk over and keeping an eye out.
3rd-Jul-2008 10:22 am - Some update... or something.
So I've registered for Otakon and so I shall be putting up my pictures of that adventure on here after the convention. In the meantime, I'm still alive!

So I'm still lurking. I suppose I could do one of those intro posts.

I got into Yu-Gi-Oh during 8th grade, but I really became obsessed my freshman year of high school. I wrote fanfiction as well (which many of you probably have), and some of this fanfiction was used in my portfolio for my senior year Creative Writing class lolz.

Anyway, I went to college and then started playing WoW, which I think contributed greatly to my lack of interest in Yu-Gi-Oh. But I'm sick of it, and I miss this fandom!

Oh, and I bring a gift too:

It's really catchy.
2nd-Jul-2008 09:57 pm - Would you like a taste of my yum-rocket? (RL, links)
Someone should tell Subway that "Yum-Rocket" is a horrible thing to call their sandwiches. That sounds like about the last thing I'd like to put in my mouth...

Anyway! Lots of links tonight. The first set are all work safe:

I find a lot of confusing things on the Internet. I'm sure they must have stories behind them, but be damned if I can figure out this one. I could understand the people + the masks (though it'd be a stretch), I can easily understand the people + the swords, I can understand either with the snow, but... all together? What in the world? Why? Why rabbits?

The second one I have a hard time posting, mostly because I can't stop staring at it. Dots! Supposedly it's one of those 3D eye trick ones, but I haven't been able to do those in years so I can't confirm that. Still, even as it is it's just... can't stop watching...

This second set is not work safe! It's man/man stuff, so if that bothers you why are you reading my LJ? ;) don't click on them. :) Remember, everything below is NWS unless otherwise marked!

I love love love love my random LJ image site. With it I found a small picture of a man tied and being comforted after being whipped. Oh my god, so hot! I <3 men tied up like that! There are no details shown, I'd even call the image work safe, but man. *melts* I love how brightly colored the rope is, how the two are touching, everything. Mmm.

Following the link from that picture, I found the bestest blog ever. Ruff's Stuff (very very NWS, may be not mind safe for the squeamish). Gay man, into the BDSM comm.

Leather/latex play sure has advanced! Aren't these masks darned cool? Close up of the horse mask. Man, wow. (I'd call both of those links work safe, no skin shown at all. Nothing "sexy", just odd.)

Now this is fricking cool (and hot and NWS). Leather Puppies! Link leads to video (ignore the first 15 second of it). I've heard of horse/pony play, and I knew it could be extended to other animals, but wow. That's so so so cool and so hot. Big muscular men as dogs/puppies! Their tails are so cool, too. :D I love the "dog" with the tattoos. And it's so cool that you can see the puppies' personalities! Eee!

There's some rather intense stuff on that blog, too. Like Suspending a guy by his balls. Just... wow. That's gotta hurt. Wow. But cool to see, cause the guy's into it, but wow. Ow.

Aw man, now I'm all hyper and bouncy again when it's time to go to bed! *wiggles* :D
2nd-Jul-2008 09:38 pm - BSG Finale Location Pictures
With just a week left on the shooting schedule for Battlestar Galactica, "a friend" of the 13th Colony took some pictures today of a location shoot for the finale, and we've posted them on our blog.

Here's a link, past the cut on the front page of the blog, directly to pictures from today's shoot.  Spoilers are minor (though very intriguing) but I know people are extra sensitive since this is the finale, so please only click on the link if you REALLY want to see what we saw today.
